Combating Loneliness in Nursing Homes
Donation protected
With the outbreak of Covid-19, nursing homes all around the country have been forced to prohibit visitation for an indefinite period of time in an effort to protect the most vulnerable members of our community from the virus. Though these harsh measures are necessary to protect our parents and grandparents that reside in nursing homes, it has left them completely isolated from the outside world, with no ability to readily communicate with beloved family and friends.
After hearing numerous stories about how nursing home personnel have been using their own facetime enabled devices to connect nursing home residents with their families, I have decided to raise money in an effort to purchase and donate tablets to local nursing homes. I have spoken to a number of doctors and nursing home directors about this idea and have received very positive feedback, reassuring me that this initiative would not only allow nursing home residents to see their families but would also raise spirits and morale during an extremely sad and isolating time.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to live with my grandparents and interact with them on a daily basis. Please consider donating so that others can also experience the joy of seeing their loved ones daily. Every dollar that you donate will go towards purchasing tablets, which I will then distribute to various nursing homes on Long Island and in Queens.
Alternatively, if you have iPads or other smart tablets that you no longer use and would like to donate, please feel free to contact me at [email redacted]
