Safe Haven Lost in the Lone Star State
Tax deductible
This is Mason he is a Lone Star Akita Rescue Akita and he’s got a story to tell - Lone Star Akita Rescue, through no fault of their own, is losing the housing where 20 of Kuma’s fellow orphans reside. There are few things as frightening to a rescue – any rescue - as receiving a call like this.
When we think of “Texas” we think of miles and miles of land and most people – who probably have never given this any thought before today – assume that Lone Star Akita Rescue (LSAR) owns property. Well, they do not. They are, however, one of the rescues with an arrangement to house their dogs on a property and with the caregivers to give them food, water, keep their kennels tidy, monitor their health, transport for vet services and give them a little attention.
A few weeks ago that situation drastically changed for Lone Star Akita Rescue – their caregiver and property holder notified the rescue that, due to serious health concerns, they would need to make arrangements to move in with family on the East Coast. What did this mean to LSAR? ALL twenty (20) of Lone Star’s Akitas residing there would have to be off the property before February 28, along with their kennel runs, houses, bedding and feed. To say the least, this call was devastating to Lone Star Akita Rescue. Finding commercial boarding for 20 large-breed dogs is not only near to impossible, but then there’s the cost: close to $8,000 or more PER MONTH, IF they can get a discounted rescue rate. Lone Star’s first concern is to ensure that all 20 Akitas in onsite would be safe and have a place to go. Even if it means transferring them to other rescues. The next is to secure experienced help to move the dogs to a new location, then break down LSAR’s kennels and equipment and get it safely into storage.
LSAR has reached out their sister rescues for help, and in true, pack-mentality fashion, many other Akita Rescues stepped up in support of Lone Star Akita Rescue’s orphans. This challenge could not be met without the strength and support of sister Rescues all across the U.S. who are working TOGETHER, for The DOGS. This incredible effort is being orchestrated and plans to transfer the dogs are underway. There are many things that need to take place before transport arrangements can be made. Some of the dogs recently came into rescue and are in need of non-critical medical care such spay or neuter. Some are undergoing HW treatment, and others have special medical needs. Each dog has been evaluated and their needs listed, and costs estimated. ALL will need funding for transport to the other rescues.
From Arizona, California, Florida, New Jersey, Virginia and more – the call for help has been answered. But these rescues cannot do this alone. This is an unexpected influx of dogs for all those who have offered to assist.
This is where we need YOUR help! . It will cost an estimated $500-600 per dog to make this happen. ANIMAL HOUSE PROJECT (AHP)** has agreed to organize this fundraising effort. All funds collected by Animal House Project, and will be managed by AHP and Diane Lynch. Thank you AHP! The money will be used strictly for the care, vetting and transport and as needed short term boarding for the dogs who will be moving on from LSAR to rescues or adopters.
The Akitas in rescue with Lone Star Akita Rescue are no less deserving now than the day they walked out of the shelter. They are just like your Akita or mine: Beautiful, friendly, loyal, sometimes goofy. Above all, each dog is worthy of our efforts. It is everyone’s goal to help them continue on their journey to a safe secure forever homes.
As a result of this monumental challenge LSAR will be halting intake for a period of time to find homes for the remaining dogs in their care, to secure suitable, long term housing for ALL the dogs in their care, present and future. This is a difficult step for Lone Star but it is the right step for the dogs and those who will come in to rescue in the future.
Animal House Project is an IRS Approved 501C3 all Volunteer Charitable Organization so monetary donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed under law. If you would like to contribute in another manner than this GoFundMe please contact us through this GoFundMe "contact organizer" button.
**Who is Animal House Project and why are we involved?
Since 2016, Animal House Project’s Rescue Food Pantry has been donating food to grass root rescues and organizations that have had a hard time paying veterinary bills and providing quality pet food. The idea was borne from Natural Balance after seeing the model that was used for our companion pet food pantry. One of those rescues, Lone Star Akita Rescue is near and dear to my heart and they are facing an unprecedented challenge that needs more than food help and Our Board decided to step in. It fits well within our core values of that it is all about taking care of the Animal First and Foremost.
You all know and love Yoshi and Bella, Akitas. They have been a staple of our Organization since I became President of the group. In honor of their efforts to help companion and rescue pets with food, Diane Lynch and I are spearheading these efforts and we will manage the disbursements to be used strictly for the care, vetting , transport and short term boarding for the dogs who will be moving on from LSAR to other rescues or adopters.
Please open your hearts this Valentine’s Day to help Animal House Project have the 20+ dogs that are being EVICTED through no fault of their own!!
We cannot help these orphans without the Help of our Village and then some!! Please! Make a Donation Today. For Every Donation Made on Valentine’s Day, Yoshi will send you a Valentine’s Day Akita Kiss!
Thank you as always -
