Safety and well-being for Tatenda Ngwaru

Donation protected
Tatenda Ngwaru is a Zimbabwean-born human rights defender and Intersex activist. She has made it her life's work to support the dignity, rights, and well-being of Intersex people.

In 2013, Tatenda founded a Zimbabwe-based not-for-profit called True Identity, whose mission is to support Intersex and transgender organizing and advocacy. Tatenda's activism in an environment characterized by high levels of anti-LGBTQI+ sentiment and open hostility forced Tatenda to flee Zimbabwe and seek refuge in the United States. Earlier this year (2022), Tatenda received word from the United States government that her asylum application, after more than seven years of process, was not moving forward. In July, Tatenda returned to Zimbabwe. Since her arrival, Tatenda and her family have been the target of threats and harassment which have increasingly amplified as elections get closer. This month (September 2022) Tatenda was forced to flee Zimbabwe to another country. Tatenda is in need of access to safe shelter and resources to support daily life in her new locale.

Tatenda's website describes words we should all live by, she says " I'm very conscious that we were all created on this earth with one thing in common, which is the ability to love unconditionally." Let's show Tatenda our love and support in this time of hardship.
