Grace on one of her visits to Helen House. We went for an evening walk round the gardens ‍‍♀️‍♀️

On March 9th of this year in honour of Grace, myself (Rebecca, Grace's mum) and her sister Imy are starting a 3 day hike across the Sahara desert followed by 2 days community project work to support and

raise funds for Helen Douglas House that cared for Grace during her terminal diagnosis of brain cancer.

Grace was diagnosed aged 12 with a brain tumour and just before her 14th birthday we received the news that her tumour was no longer stable or treatable and she was being passed onto hospice care. The thought of going to hospice filled me with utter dread. How could my beautiful girl be palliative?

On our first visit Grace waltzed in full of joy and was met with fun and laughter from all the nursing staff. Grace never had any fears, she saw Helen House for what it really is - a very special place full of love and care.

Grace has several stays at Helen House and always enjoyed being there, often asking if she could stay longer.

Our last visit came in November of 2020, the day Grace passed away. We were given the blessed opportunity to stay with Grace for 5 further days after her passing. Grace was cared for with up most dignity and love by all the staff. They looked after my whole family, they cried with us, grieved with us, fed us and held our hands through the hardest time of our lives.

Now we want to give back...so now it's our turn. We will walk 60km through the Sahara desert through the heat and sandstorms to raise much needed funds.

Helen House needs 5 million pounds a year to run it's incredibly special hospice unit for babies up to teens. They can't provide this care without your support.

They helped us at our hardest times and continue to support our family now 3 years after Grace passed away.
