Hi my name is Makeba and I am Sahirah’s Mimi (grandmother).On May 20th 2023 at approximately 12:55 pm Sahirah was outside in her own backyard playing when she was violently attacked by a Pitt bull. Her mom was speaking with a neighbor that lives in the complex. Her mom seen that the neighbor had a dog and asked if the dog was friendly, because she knows that Sahirah loves animals. The neighbor said yes and allowed Sahirah to pet it. Sahirah went on to keep playing and running around in her own backyard as usual. While she was playing she walked by and gave the dog another gentle rub on the back. Thats when the dog turned around and began to maul her by the face. The owner never commanded for the dog to release or tried to get the dog off of her. Her mother stood there helplessly in shock and began to scream so loud that it startled the dog. It was her mothers wail that caused the dog to release. After the attack the owner took her dog and walked off. She never returned to see if Sahirah was ok. Sahirah was in a fetal position not making any noise so her mom thought she was dead. Animal control was contacted and as far as we know the dog has not been captured. Austin police department has not contacted us either for further investigation this has really disappointed us. This has traumatized us all. Her mom will need help with medical bills from the hospital stay, multiple doctors visits , and counseling needed from this horrific attack. Sahirah loves getting dolled up, wearing jewelry, and getting her nails polished. She just turned 4 on May 14th. We’re grateful that she’s still here with us.
