SAHS Greenhouse Repairs
Hi, my name is Paige Wilson and I would like to raise money to repair the greenhouse at St. Augustine High School. My best friend, Helene Kozol, and I discovered our love for gardening when maintaining our plot at the Lincolnville Community Garden. We grew kale, spinach, tomatoes, strawberries, onions, cilantro, parsley, and mint in our plot and we had the best time. Unfortunately, due to the hot temperatures in Florida during the summer, we made the decision to shut down our garden during the hot summer months, because it was simply too difficult to keep plants alive. During the summer, we realized how much we missed gardening and we wanted to share our passion for gardening with our classmates at SAHS. Thus, the vision for the St. Augustine High School Gardening Club was born. We remembered how everyday in english class, Helene and I would stare out the window at the abandoned greenhouse in the breezeway. In a rush of excitement, we made the decision that this would be the home of the gardening club! We were so eager to start working on making posters, filling out forms, and getting the word out about our club, that until last week, we had never even had the chance to step inside the greenhouse. Now, we are realizing the greenhouse needs a lot more “TLC” than we had originally thought. Glass panels all over the greenhouse are missing and invasive plants are growing under the walls. Just the missing panels will cost almost $500 to replace, and many panels are cracked and destined to fail soon. Any of your donated money will go towards repairing the greenhouse so students can share their love of gardening even when my friend (and co-president) Helene and I go off to college. We appreciate your generosity and happy gardening!
