Sailing for Mental Health: UK Circumnavigation
Donation protected
Ahoy, friends!
This summer, I'm embarking on an extraordinary solo sailing journey around Great Britain and Ireland, aiming to set a new record as the youngest and first female to voyage around the UK and Ireland solo by sail. Covering over 2300 nautical miles and visiting approximately 80 locations across the UK, this voyage isn't just about the adventure; it's about breaking barriers and making a difference.
I'm passionate about raising awareness for mental health issues, especially those faced by young people. With the current mental health crisis, it's more important than ever to spark conversations, reduce the stigma, and promote understanding, ultimately working towards reducing the shame and fear associated with mental health issues.
In these sometimes remote places, I'll be giving talks to local communities, children and young people. By sharing my story and insights, I hope to inspire conversations, reduce the stigma, and promote understanding, ultimately working towards reducing the shame and fear associated with mental health issues.
My own personal journey with mental health issues and mental illness began when I was just 11 years old; it has been beyond difficult. It has put me and my family through some incredibly difficult times; there were times when I truly didn't think I'd survive, and times when I didn't want to. But though I still struggle at times, I'm still here and fighting, and that is something to be celebrated. I want to use this experience and my sailing background to help others.
While my boat is nearly ready and I'm fully qualified, I'm still struggling a bit for funding. Your support can make a real difference. Donations will go towards essential expenses for the journey, including life-saving equipment such as Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRBs), personal locator beacons, and first aid kits. Additionally, funds will help cover communication equipment for staying connected during the voyage, navigation kits to ensure safe passage, and ongoing maintenance supplies to keep the boat seaworthy throughout the journey. Your contribution will directly impact the safety and success of this mission, enabling me to focus on spreading awareness and making a positive impact on mental health.
