Sala Coffee and Wine Accident Relief Fund
Donation protected
Our friends at Sala |Coffee & Wine| Derrick and Brandee recently encountered some bad luck. Here is a message from these two hard-working, community-minded business owners...
On September 16th at 11:35am the front door to our homey coffee and wine shop was hit by a speeding pickup truck. A car turning onto Walnut from Painter Ave froze in the middle of their turn as a pickup truck was driving southbound on Painter Ave. The pickup truck swerved to avoid colliding with the turning car and smashed headfirst into the front door of our shop, ripping the door from its frame and launching the glass of the door into the shop. Thankfully nobody was injured but the accident caused severe structural damage and damage to the foundation of the building. The entire doorframe needs to be rebuilt along with repairs to the walls facing Painter Ave.
We still have many active invoices that need to be paid and without any business this makes it difficult for us to meet all of our financial obligations. As the situation is still being investigated and deemed unsafe to operate out of we are unable to proceed with operations until further notice. And as always, COVID-19 has delayed all processes so things are just harder and we aren't sure when we'll be able to resume business until we get these repairs underway.
Our current goal is $15,000 for initial repairs. A new door might cost $5,000 on its own. That's not including the doorframe itself or the walls, and the foundation is another monster entirely. We hope to have more accurate estimates soon. We'd like to be up and running by the end of October but we can't move forward without help and support from our community.
We are an owner operated Latinx owned business with a heart for family and connectedness. We are aware COVID has taken a toll on everyone and we understand not everyone has the means to donate. We do appreciate any and all donations during this time. We are thankful for the time we've been able to spend getting to know this community and hope we can continue to do so through our shop.
