Salaam BIPOC Community Garden

Dearest friends and community,
In the spring of 2020, Amanda David , my kin, dear friend, and often co-collaborator organized the incredibly life giving “Jane Minor BIPOC Community Medicine Garden ” for our beloved relations in Ithaca, NY.
Inspired by the gardens and their healing vibrancy, I said to Amanda, "let's do something like this here in the Hudson Valley" and her response, in typical Amanda fashion was, "bro, let's build a network!"
So here we are slowly building the network of our shared dreams....
We are thrilled to announce the launching of the “Salaam BIPOC Community Garden” project! The community garden will operate from May-October, and will provide 12 12x12 plots for BIPOC folks in the greater Hudson Valley community seeking land access to grow and tend food and medicine on. “Salaam BIPOC Community Garden” joins its sibling garden “Jane Minor BIPOC Community Garden” as the second BIPOC Community Garden in the NorthEast region network.
With the support of our friends at Whistle Down Farm in Hudson, NY, we’ve got a beautiful plot of farmland for the gardens to call home. Now we need your support.
We are fundraising to get a deer fence raised, a tool shed built, and water catchment in place. We are additionally raising funds for garden tools, irrigation, compost, seedlings, and seeds for garden members to have access to all they need to tend their gardens. If we exceed our fundraising goals, all left over funds will be redistributed as seed money for the next community garden build in our growing mycelium network!
The emerging vision for the network of BIPOC community gardens is simple. We aim to reclaim access to viable land for our kin to safely gather in community, to grow culturally relevant foods and medicines for our families and communities, and to share knowledge, organize, learn, and heal with/from each other and the land.
Thank you for support, love, and care and please share with your communities wide and far!
