Salome’s Road to Recovery

Hi my name is Lettie along side siblings Leon, Troy and Kerry, grandchildren in below photo missing on pic is Maliq, Trae-James and Brooklyn and we seeking help fundraising for our mother/grandmother Salome Zelda Campbell,

We come to all of you to ask for help in a very difficult situation and right now we need all the help we can get in any form... we have managed to get this far but now we have hit a wall...

Here is our story of our precious mom, granny, sister.

Our mom Salome Zelda Campbell started feeling ill about 15 years ago after we lost our dad. Her symptoms started off with dizziness, fatigue, off balance, generally unwell, body aches, muscle pain and memory loss.

She has seen Dr's over the years who have sent her for various tests, she had an MRI done in 2019 but no diagnosis was made.

She has been deteriorating rapidly over the last four months, from February to May those of us closest to her have noticed a dramatic change. Thankfully we managed to get her to a neurologist who sent her for more thorough testing. An MRI scan revealed that she has *Hydrocephalus*. Hydrocephalus is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to widen, putting harmful pressure on the brain's tissues.

Our mom needs an emergency operation.

The Dr explained the procedure :

During shunt surgery, a thin tube called a shunt is implanted in your spine to stomach. The excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain flows through the shunt to another part of your body, usually your tummy. From here, it's absorbed into your blood.A spinal shunt (also known as a lumbar shunt) is designed to bypass, or redirect, bodily fluids from one point in the body to another. Two types of lumbar shunts include Lumbar-peritoneal (LP) and Lumbar-subcutaneous (LS), although the LP shunt is most common.

In more simple terms, mom has water on the brain which is causing all her symptoms. If they do not drain it as soon as possible she will only get worse until her body shuts down.

Mom is on medical aid but as we all know how the medical aids work... there is a short fall of USD$9154. Between the four of us and life as we know it, it is beyond our means to come up with this amount on our own and on such short notice. We have all had our share of financial obstacles and are not able to do this without your help.

As you all know Salome has always been ball of energy and life, she lives for her children and her grandchildren. We all want to see her back to good health, pain free and that light in her eyes again.
