Sal's Battle with Cancer

My Name is Ruby Thompson and I am fundraising for my Mother Selena Thompson as she again begins her battle with Cancer.

In October 2020 Mum as diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in the parotid gland. After surgery to remove the cancer mum underwent 33 rounds of radiation to shrink what was left after surgery. After going into remission for 3 years. During a routine scan it was discovered that mum’s cancer had not only returned it had now spread to her salivary glands, lungs and liver. On Tuesday 15th October 2024 we were informed that as mums’ cancer had spread through her blood system the cancer could not be cured. The best Doctors can do is treat it with either chemotherapy or if mum is able to get into a trial medication. She has to have genetic testing before she can start on the trial though. The doctor from Sydney is going to liaise with the oncologist team from Canberra to see if treatment can be done in Canberra or Sydney. But we will know more once the genetic testing comes back. Mum has a follow up appointment on the 29th of October which will then be the final treatment plan and mum can make the decisions around what she wants to do treatment wise. Either way both medications will have side effects which given her current co- Morbidities could affect her quality of life, but she is pretty set on getting the treatment even with the side effects as she will live longer. Anyone that knows mum knows how much of a fighter she is and how strong she is. She is the absolute rock of our family and holds a special place to so many people.

All donations will go towards the cost associated with Medications that are not on the PBS and unfortunately not rebated as well as potential travel to and from Sydney as well as accommodation and time Family will have to take off work to support mum.

Many people know how caring mum is and how she is often the first person to help anyone out no matter what. All donations are greatly appreciated.
