Help Ashley Hatcher Bring Her Film Salt Line to Life

In January of 2024, my diverse crew and I went into production for this exact film. At the time it went by the name "Light Keeper". While making the film, my crew and I experienced a traumatizing situation involving a racist neighbor, the police, and gunshots.

This situation put a stunt in the completion of the short film because my crew and I ran out of time to film and also I ran out of the finances to fund the project. Blaming myself for running out of time, I went into a depression. As a result, I paused on completing my thesis, thus being forced to extend my final semester as a grad student.

After giving myself proper time to heal, connect with my ancestors, and allow myself to be nurtured by friends and family, I decided that I was destined to revisit this project and turn that negative situation into a positive. This inspired me to refine the script, get as much of my crew back together as possible, and restart the project from the ground up.

"Salt Line" is truly my passion project because of everything it has taken for me and my crew to reach the finish line. For me, this is more than a thesis project to complete my degree; this project is a message to anyone trying to accomplish anything that they too can be the rose that grew from the concrete.
