Honoring Joe Saltzman at USC
Donation protected
Help Us Surprise Joe Saltzman on His 75th Birthday by Contributing to an Auditorium Seat in His Honor in USC's New Wallis Annenberg Hall for Communication & Journalism!
The University of Southern California recently opened the new Wallis Annenberg Hall, home to the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, and is offering a seat-naming program in the building's new auditorium. As a former student of Joe Saltzman's, I've purchased a seat to honor him and his nearly 60-year affiliation with USC as a student, adjunct, and much-loved tenured professor. With help from his wife Barbara, I'm reaching out to other students, colleagues and friends who might want to help recognize this man who has touched and transformed so many lives.
The seat cost was $3,000 and I've pledged to Barbara that a minimum of $500 will come from me personally. If, as I hope, this campaign is able to raise more than $2,500 (net of fees charged by this site), the surplus will be donated to a cause that is near and dear to both their hearts: The Jester & Pharley Phund. Founded by Barbara to share the indomitable spirit of their son, David, its mission is "to give children joy, laughter, the love of learning, and a way to live up to the Jester's motto: 'It's up to us to make a difference. It's up to us to show we care.'" You can learn all about this worthy, non-profit organization at www.thejester.org.
Whether you can donate $1, $25, $50, $100 or any amount large or small, your participation will be most appreciated! If you do so by October 15, I will be able to include your name on the presentation we make to Joe at his 75th birthday celebration next month. Regardless, I will make sure that Joe is notified of all contributors when this campaign ends.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT JOE, as we are trying to keep this a secret until we can surprise him on October 19.
It would be greatly appreciated, whether you contribute or not, if you would pass along information about this GoFundMe page to anyone who knows Joe and who might like to be part of this project to honor his USC connection of 58 years and counting!

Note: Even if this campaign doesn't reach its goal, Joe's auditorium seat is guaranteed; I will be making up any shortfall myself, as the purchase has already been completed. Because USC doesn't currently have a crowd-funding source for donations, any amount contributed through this GoFundMe campaign will not be tax-deductible for you as a donor. My apologies for that, but I verified the options with USC and there was no way around it.
P.S. If you would like verification from either Barbara Saltzman or USC to confirm the seat purchase, please contact me and I will be happy to provide details.
THANK YOU!
