Heritage Chestnut Tree in Sellwood-Moreland
Donation protected
Hi everyone!
We want to Save this Tree.
Rescued Oregon Timber has been selected to salvage a fallen, rare Heritage American Chestnut
This massive, beautiful tree was the last of its kind on the Portland Heritage tree list, and sadly it fell in a recent storm.
Our goal is to prevent this tree from becoming firewood, wood chips or simply going to the dump. We want to return this wood to the community so they can appreciate this part of history in their homes.
We are currently accepting and reviewing opportunities to give some wood back to the community of Sellwood-Moreland once it’s properly processed for use.
We are thrilled for the opportunity, but we need your help!
The cost of moving, storing, drying, milling, and processing this giant log is substantial and takes significant time. Our donation goal of $7,500 will give us a big leap towards our success.
Any amount is helpful!
Disclaimer: no raffles, sweepstakes, giveaways, or promotions are offered in exchange for any donations made on GoFundMe.
The tree will be moved January 16th.
We will post updates of our journey on here and on Instagram @rescuedoregontimber.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: What all goes into repurposing a fallen tree so the wood can be used in projects?
A: The log is first milled by a giant bandsaw into large live edge slabs. These slabs are then stacked for a while to air dry off bulk of the moisture. They are finally loaded into a vacuum kiln for up to a month to kill bugs in the wood and further reduce the moisture for use.
Q: When will the charcuterie boards be available?
A: Sept 28th at Baerlic Brewery
2239 SE 11th Ave in SE PDX
Q: How will I know when and where to get the boards?
A: We encourage everyone involved to follow us on insta @rescuedoregontimber for updates, but we will update GoFundMe as well as we know more.
Q: What if I live out of town?
A: Please message us your address so we can get it to you. GoFundMe does not provide contact information.
Thank you!
