On September 22nd, 2022, Sam was diagnosed with bacterial Meningitis, airlifted to Hillcrest South Hospital in Tulsa, Ok, and put in ICU. Treatment was started immediately while he was in flight. On Wednesday morning, we got the news the infection had spread to the side of his neck, and he needed surgery the same day. The surgery was successful, with no paralysis. As you know, some people with the infection die, and death can occur in as little as a few hours. We are thankful for the team of doctors and orthopedic spine surgeons who saved his life.
After discharge, Sam will need antibiotics for 2-3 weeks. At least sometimes, the antibiotics will need to be administered via IV. from a Home Health Nurse, Physical Therapy to regain his mobility and be in the neck brace for 4-6 weeks.
If you would like to assist in what will be a mountain of medical and related travel expenses that has sidelined him and his family, it would be Greatly Appreciated!
