Sam Strider's Celebration of Life Fundraiser
Donation protected
Hello! In 2019, Sam Strider Halbert was stung by a bee and sustained an anoxic brain injury. When he was first injured, I was at a crossroads: nursing home, inpatient rehab and home was on one side and discontinuing care on the other. Against his end of life wishes, I chose the recovery path because I wanted more time to see where Sam’s recovery would lead, what his quality of life looked like, etc.
As the last hospital stay progressed (unexplained seizures), I found myself at the crossroads again. Stay on the rehab path that I put him on or discontinue care. After 5 years, his future was clear and it did not align with his standards of life, pre or post injury. Understanding and accepting this, I made the choice to honor Sam’s wishes and he entered hospice care at the Center for Conscious Living and Dying. We spent 18 days surrounded by family, friends, community and nature. Sam died on June 15th and was cremated on the 20th.
This fundraiser will help cover the cremation and celebration of life expenses. Planning has just begun but the celebration of life will be held in 2025 to give all family and friends time to plan. This journey hasn't been the happiest but it has been absolutely beautiful. A large part of this beauty is the constant support and love shown to us over the last 5 years...thank you!!
Loves,
Sammi
