In January Sam was experiencing shortness of breath, coughing, night sweats and difficulty sleeping. They assumed it was a cold and would run its course. On Friday, February 8 she went to urgent care at Sanford because she was having trouble breathing. The doctor ordered a number of tests where they found fluid in her lungs and a mass in her chest erea. She was admitted that day and they drained fluid from both lungs. Saturday they had a chest X-ray and blood work. They found her left lung was partially collapsed from the fluid drain. On Sunday, February 10, Sam had a biopsy done on her neck. Dr Kobrinsky told her family that the spot was very hard and they broke the needle doing the biopsy. The results were inconclusive. They ordered another biopsy along with a PET scan. The PET scan revealed she had stage 3 cancer. The biopsy and other tests gave them a diagnosis of Hodgkins Lymphoma. Dr. Kobrinsky immediately implemented a treatment plan and Sam has already had 3 chemotherapy treatments. The doctors believe she will be done with treatment in 6 months and could go back to living a normal life. In the meantime Sam will only be able to work part time if any at all. Donations will go to help with their mounting medical bills and living expenses. Nick and Samantha are so grateful for all of the support they are receiving from their family and friends.
