In Loving Memory of our Warrior Samantha Mick

A goodbye is the hardest, especially when a story was not quite finished. 

We have started this fundraising page to raise money to support Glen and Shelley Mick; parents to an angel who found her wings.  Samantha was not only a daughter, a sister, a granddaughter, an aunty, cousin or friend, but she was also one one of the kindest, most beautiful people inside and out. Samantha had amazing strength that people could only dream of.  She overcame many obstacles that life threw at her, and never allowed it to change her zest in life.

Just over ten years ago when she was starting a new school year, and most people were concerned about making a good impression, she was trying to remain strong for her parents as they lost her younger brother.  Like his older sister, he was strong but after three years of his battle he succumbed to his sickness.  Sadly, three years, plus a few days later, their mother joined him.

With all this despair, death and unhappiness so many people would loose their path. However, like the dragons Samantha adored, she would spread her wings and fight on.  She would rise out of the sorrow and become a warrior.  This would not dictate the person she became, but it would strengthen her and give her one of the most empathetic and caring hearts.  She would help anyone out, no questions asked. If they needed food to eat, a place to stay or even the shirt off her back; she was there for them.  As Stitch once said "Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten".

Art and Halloween ran through her blood. She could visualize costumes in her head, and had the ability to bring them to life.  She could create beauty in nothing or emulate the style of Jack Skeleton, her muse; also, the protagonist from her favourite movie "Nightmare Before Christmas".  Reading, drawing and gaming were passions, as her mind was always alert and focused. She had diverse passions which made her the unforgettable Samantha that we all knew and loved!

Now at the young age of 29 Samantha has been taken from us unexpectedly.  Yes, her life was cut short, and she had to endure multiple back surgeries throughout her life, but each one of those years we were blessed to have her in our lives as she lived, and did not just exist.

On a typical night on October 10 Samantha was returning home from a night out with friends in Sault Ste. Marie, ON when everything changed in the blink of an eye.  Her electric bike was rear ended by a truck, where she was a mere 30 seconds away from her driveway.  Just the day earlier she was alive, gathered with her family to say a final goodbye to her grandmother.

For two weeks she fought for her life in Sudbury, ON where she was airlifted in critical condition.  For the duration of the entire two weeks her father and stepmother remained with her, making decisions no parent should ever have to endure.

For two weeks her father and stepmother received news from terrible to unimaginable.  For two weeks they left the comfort of their home, for a hotel in a different city where they did not have the physical support of their loved ones nearby, and for two weeks they did not work so they could spend every precious moment with Samantha.

Now in less than one month Glen and Shelley, along with their loved ones must say goodbye to Samantha, when they haven't even had the chance of recovering from Glen's mother's departure.

No family deserves so much unhappiness and grief in their lives. Glen and Shelley are incredible people that adore their children. To bury one child is traumatic, but to be faced with this situation again is inconceivable. Any help you could please offer would greatly be appreciated.
