UPDATE (8/26/20): A debut album is in the works!! The goal amount will be raised to $8000 since it is no longer a smaller project. Let me introduce you to the musicians:
Pasquale Grasso, a renowned jazz guitar virtuoso from Italy
Ari Roland (bass) who has played with the likes of Betty Carter, Harry Connick, Jr., Annie Ross, Nellie McKay, etc.
Kenny Washington (legendary drummer) who has played with Bill Charlap, Tony Bennett, Betty Carter, Ahmad Jamal, Johnny Griffin, etc
The album will be produced by none other than Grammy-nominated producer Matt Pierson (Jane Monheit, Joshua Redman, Robert Randolph, Kirk Whalum, Becca Stevens, Brad Mehldau, Bob James, Pat Metheny, Laura Benanti, Bria Skonberg, Sophie Milman, etc.)
We plan to record with Grammy-winning engineer Chris Allen (Kurt Elling, Jazzmeia Horn, Norah Jones, Paul Simon, Gretchen Parlato, etc) at the celebrated recording studio Sear Sound.
Hi everyone! My name is Samara Joy McLendon and I am a singer. I am 20 years old from the Bronx, NY, a student at SUNY Purchase, and going into my final year as a college student studying jazz. I have recently been made an Ella Fitzgerald Scholar and won the Sarah Vaughan competition in 2019.
If you're here, you have probably seen the now-viral video (over 1,000,000 views and counting!) that was posted on Facebook of me singing alongside my professor.
Here's the link if you feel so inclined to watch and share even further:
Take Love Easy
After rising questions about whether or not I have recorded music (I do not), I've decided to use this opportunity to raise the money that has kept me from recording a really good project to showcase, perform, and possibly even tour with!
The goal of $4,000 was exceeded!! Now that the project has shifted from an EP to a full album, I will raise the goal to $8000. If this new goal is reached, I will post updates on my Facebook artist page Samara Joy Mclendon and through the mailing list on my website samarajoy.com. The money will go towards recording fees, filming, marketing costs, publicist, etc.
If you are not able to give at this time, that is completely fine! I'm in no rush and I want to make sure the project is a good one. If all you can do at the moment is share, that is GREATLY appreciated. But if you are moved to give, you're not only supporting me but the many people involved in making great music.
Thank you so much!
