Sam's Mitzvah to Save Bats from WNS

Donation protected

Samuel Combs is preparing to be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on May 21, 2016. Part of that ritual is for the young person to initiate a mitzvah, or social action, project that will benefit the community.

Sam explains:

"Bats have been my favorite animal since I was born. Bats are amazing creatures that don't get enough credit for what they do for us. Without bats, bugs would overpopulate the world. Bats can do marvelous things. When I first saw a wild bat in Wisconsin, I was so happy.

But bats are in trouble. Since 2006, a fungus called White Nose Syndrome has infected bats in North America, interrupting their hibernation and breeding patterns and killing thousands of bats. Half of America's bats are in danger from WNS.

I want to raise money for research to stop the spread of WNS and cure infected bats. All money raised through my mitzvah campaign will go directly to Bat Conservation International.

Please help me raise money to help bats! They are so much more important than many people realize. They care for each other and even adopt orphans. Bats need our help. That is why I am dedicating my mitzvah project to bat welfare."
