Sammy’s Legal Guardianship

Hello everyone, we have encountered obstacles and roadblocks in the process of getting guardianship for our son Sammy. Every doctors appointment or lab appointment we are constantly hounded when this will be completed. Through exhaustive search. We have been looking and reaching out and finally found a lawyer and hired him to gain guardianship of our son Sammy hoping to get this completed by summer’s end. We appreciate all that have donated to our son’s go fund me page to help offset these fees as your donation is greatly appreciated but the lawyer’s fee are substantially more than we anticipated. As we stated previously in the state of Nebraska when a person is unable to make responsible decisions about their finances, living situation, or care because of their age, physical or mental condition, a petition must be filed with the county courts to appoint a guardian or conservator. Court appointed guardians manage the personal or financial affairs of vulnerable individuals who can no longer protect themselves. Our son who fits these categories and has Autism after turning 20 he would become the property of the state thereby forcing parent to have to go thru this legal process and hire attorneys to then be able to appear before a judge to enable the parents the role recognized through the state as our son’s legal guardians. Needless to say this places undue financial hardship to families to go thru this legal process. At this time we are continuing this go fund me page to help offset these legal fees. For those that do not know our son he is nonverbal and requires constant supervision and is unable to understand basic living fundamentals. He also has severe behavioral issues and learning difficulties which contributes to his overall disability. With all of that said and the many obstacles that Sammy endures daily he has the most amazing personality and smile that literally will light up the room. It is so hard to believe our little boy is now 19 and we have to go through this legal process to gain approval and guardianship of our own son.
