Sammy's New Heart Journey

A simple dental procedure isn’t so simple when you have a special heart like Sammy (6). Born with heterotaxy, Sammy has endured multiple procedures and heart surgeries to reach the point of being able to run and play with other kids his age, despite living with chronic heart failure. However, a “simple” dental procedure that required anesthesia was just too much for Sammy’s special heart, and he sustained significant heart damage. He was airlifted from Oklahoma City to Dallas Children’s Hospital to begin the transplant process soon after he had started first grade. This GoFundMe has been created as many folks have asked how to best support the Harris family through this lengthy process that will have Mom and Sammy staying in Dallas for as long as necessary and Dad living back home in Oklahoma, so Sammy’s brother won’t have his schooling disrupted. Thank you for your love, support, & prayers that continue to hold this family together through these difficult days now and those ahead.

October 2023 UPDATE: Sammy will be transferred to Houston for heart transplant testing at Texas Children’s.

January 2024 UPDATE: After testing at Texas Children’s in Houston, Sammy’s antibodies came back incompatible with 100% of the population, so they will not be offering him a heart. We are not sure what’s next for our Super Sammy, but we appreciate your prayers.

July 2024 UPDATE: Dallas Children's Medical Center accepted Sammy to begin weekly infusions to reduce his donor antibodies. If his antibodies respond and come down to an acceptable level, he will be listed for a heart transplant. This process is long and difficult, but we trust God's perfect timing.
