Sam’s Big Moose Ironman Challenge!
Donation protected
Those of you who know me well, will know that for the last year, I have been swimming, running or cycling ( a festival / Christmas and lads weekends aside!) almost non stop. I thought it was about time I explained why.....
This time last year (June ‘18) I spontaneously signed up to the Saundersfoot Sprint Triathlon (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). It was held in September and, after completing it, and then cheering on Tenby Ironman Wales athletes the following day, I was well and truly hooked by the sport that is ‘Triathalon.’
Always up for a challenge, I decided to up my game this year and will be doing 3x Ironman 70.3 mile distance races in 3 months. These races will be 1.9km wetsuit sea/lake swims, 56 miles of undulating bike racing followed by a half marathon (13.1 miles).
I’ve only ever run 10km in a race before and I’m certainly not a ‘natural athlete’ so this is going to be TOUGH!
At the same time that I discovered the Tri world, I also came to hear about an amazing organisation called Big Moose who have also impacted and inspired me in a big way. I’ve therefore decided to combine these two and will be fundraising for Big Moose through this Summer’s Triathalons (and a couple of extra challenges thrown in).
Big Moose are a non-profit whose slogan is ‘to leave the world better than we found it’. They recently opened a coffee shop in Cardiff that aims to train and employ homeless and other disadvanted people in food and beverage so they can learn, work and then move on and out of life on the streets. They also do so much other epic work like hosting the Super Tri series for disabled children, giving their parents some time of respite whilst an army of volunteers help out, as well as projects for Teenage Cancer Trust and Mind.

BIG MOOSE
I would absolutely love your support in this! Knowing that I’ll be able to donate to such a worthwhile organisation, who in turn support so many amazing charities, will be a huge drive to get me powering through those kilometers.
As a thank you for getting behind my challenges and sponsoring me, I’ll be giving a prize to one lucky sponsor! All you need to do is guess my collective times for the 3 x 70.3 mile triathalons and 2 other challenges (below). Just pop the time in your donation comment and I’ll enter you into the draw.
3x 70.3 mile Triathalons (Ironman Staffordshire, Cotswold Classic, Mumbles Mid distance)
3.8km Tenby sea swim (Long Course Weekend)
66 mile Tenby cycle race (Long Course Weekend)
Thank you so much in advance and throughout this whole challenge!
For clarity, I’ve bought into all events with my own money and ALL money raised will go to Big Moose.
