Sam's Resilience Fund: Be a Part of Her Comeback
Donation protected
Samantha, a dedicated speech-language pathologist, has faced a series of challenging setbacks since July 2022. Her journey has been marked by the relentless impact of multiple COVID infections leading to chronic illness, and the inability to provide for her family.
In her pursuit of recovery and healing, Samantha took a leave from work and engaged in Mary Free Bed's pain program, which provided her with physical therapy, speech-language therapy, and occupational therapy. However, due to insurance complications, she has not yet started additional recommended therapy programs.
August brought further trials as Samantha underwent surgery as a preventative measure against cancer, following a scare earlier in the year. Fortunately, there was no cancer detected, but the recovery was more complex due to the lingering effects of long COVID. Only recently has she received clearance to resume daily activities she could perform before the surgery.
Amidst these challenges, Samantha's physician at Mary Free Bed advised against her return to work as a speech therapist for various reasons. Simultaneously, her disability claim was denied due to a lack of evidence of disability, prompting her to begin the appeals process.
Samantha's life has been filled with daily uncertainty, as she grapples with an array of debilitating symptoms, including headaches, fatigue, muscle issues, balance problems, heart palpitations, and cognitive difficulties. The unpredictability of her condition often limits her to only a few productive hours each day.
Her weakened immune system further compounds her struggles, making her susceptible to illnesses like the common cold, which can leave her bedridden for days. Samantha's determination shines through as she perseveres, adapting her activities to her physical capabilities.
Seeking answers and treatment, Samantha has recently consulted with a rheumatologist who confirmed her suspected hypermobility diagnosis. She has also begun treatment for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) with a low-dose beta blocker and dietary adjustments. While these steps represent progress, she still awaits referrals from neuropsychiatry to address her cognitive challenges.
Throughout this arduous journey, Samantha's husband, Matt, and her older children have been pillars of support, but the toll on her family has been substantial, not only emotionally but also financially. This past year has tested their resilience on multiple fronts.
Samantha's story serves as a stark reminder of the profound impact of chronic illness and the lasting consequences of COVID-19. Your love and support are invaluable to her and her family during these trying times. Please consider contributing any amount to her GoFundMe campaign to help alleviate the financial burden as she navigates the complexities of her health challenges. Your generosity will make a meaningful difference in Samantha's life as she strives to regain her health and stability. Additionally, Meijer gift cards for groceries would provide essential support for her family's daily needs. Thank you for your compassion and support.
