Samson Desta Medical Fund

In November 2017, Samson Desta went to the doctor after his wife, Lemlem, noticed he had been having trouble breathing. After many tests and doctor's visits, Samson was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. While a scary diagnosis, Samson approached this hurdle with the same positive attitude he approaches everything else in life.



He immediately started treatment which included chemotherapy and bone marrow transplants. Over the following six months, Samson kept his energy high despite the taxing medical procedures and continued to be active both at work and at home. In the last month, Samson has undergone stem cell replacement therapy which has been a more physically challenging obstacle. He remains in good spirits and continues to work towards a clean bill of health. 


Not only is Samson lucky enough to be married to Lemlem, who encouraged his doctor's visit in the first place, but he is also father to Beza and Mikyas. He is active in his church community and known to all at Medhanialem Church. In addition to being a great family man, he is also a truly cherished member of the Hyatt family. 


Samson has worked at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis for the past 15 years in many different roles in the Food & Beverage division. He is truly a leader among his team and has been responsible for training many new associates when they join the team. The care he shows for both guests and coworkers is evident on a daily basis. He has been recognized many times throughout the years for his outstanding service, even in the face of obstacles. He most recently was awarded the Minnesota Lodging Award for Heart of House Service.



Unfortunately, despite his medical outlook being good, the many treatments and doctor's visits have come at a high cost. We are asking that you please consider donating towards those medical expenses. Samson is a pillar in our community who has always supported those in need and this is our opportunity to help him.
