MJ was born three months premature, weighing at 1 lb 14oz. With much prayer and a lot of love MJ has grown into a vibrant HEALTHY young man. Since MJ was 3 years old he has been dancing to commercials or any tune he would come across. As we've seen his interest and desire for dance/perform grow, we have tried to encourage and support him. Living upstate has aided in his dance education, but would not take him where he wishes to be in the future. So after many family discussions, we've decided to make the move back to NYC. This allowed MJ better access to things for pursuing his passion of dance and eventually his career in the Performing Arts. As this was and is not in our financial budget, we found ourselves having to ask our community for assistance with tuition to aid in MJ’s dance schooling.
In the 3 years that MJ has been dancing in NYC, he has been able to enhance his training immensely, but he is desiring more! This opportunity to join the San Francisco Ballet School is a dream. A dream that as parents, we find ourselves once again having to ask our community for assistance.
It was a family sacrifice to aid MJ’s summer intensive studies with San Francisco Ballet School
and we are willing to do our part to assist in the Fall studies, but we need assistance.
San Francisco Ballet Company has offered MJ a full scholarship for his dance trainning and offered a room in the house that the Ballet School has for their students. MJ was also given financial aid towards the housing expense. We are required to pay the balance of MJ's room and board at the SFBS Residence House.
The below are the expenses and the aid that has been given: San Francisco Ballet School (SFBS)
SFBS Registration Fee: $200
San Francisco Ballet School Housing (SFBSH)
SFBSH Fee: $10600
SFBSH Registration Fee: $200
SFBSH Deposit: $500
SFBSH Financial Aid: $6100
THE SCHOOL HAS GIVEN US UNTIL 12/1/17 to make
FINAL BALANCE PAYMENT
In persuing his dream, he has attended (4) different schools in the past (5) years. MJ is a stellar honor student at La Guardia HS in NYC. He finished his sophomore year with a 92.33 GPA. MJ will continue his academic studies at San Francisco's Independence High School, where he will still be required to keep his grades up while maintaining a professional dance schedule as part of this amazing scholarship opportunity. The San Francisco Ballet Company is considered one of the top 5 in the world.
MJ LOVES the school, appreciated the instructors, and felt welcomed by administration. MJ was honored to be the ONLY African American male in the San Francisco Ballet School Summer Intensive Program. He was equally proud to be asked to return in the Fall. We are asking you to understand and know that as a family we are appreciative and honored that you have assisted in giving MJ a chance to enhance his Dance career.
Thanking you in advance,
Edwards' Family
