Walking down the streets of San Francisco I witnessed something I thought we would never see in our lifetimes, San Francisco and the Bay Area forced to shut down. As a San Francisco native, it wrenches my heart in a way that only one who loves a city and its community can feel.
During this time everyone was called to combat this in their own different ways. Some on the frontlines, our heroes caring for those infected who risk their lives and perhaps people close to them, to workers who keep the city and Bay Area operating so our communities can continue to function. For us in the barber trade, those who keep our communities looking and feeling good, our way to help combat the virus was to shut down and stay at home to slow the spread. We answered the call and made the sacrifice to do our part to help save the city and Bay Area we all love. In exchange for the sacrifice, we would be facing the fate of so many that have lost the chance to earn a living to provide for themselves and their families. So many many other industries answered the call and stepped into the uncertain and unknown to do their part to take on the virus. No one is exempt from this fight and it’s only by everyone making the sacrifice can we crush this virus and get the Bay Area on its feet.
With a sad and heavy heart, we humbly ask those who can help to honor the sacrifice and assist those who are not able to work a chance to get through the terrible period. For those who wish to donate to help the families of the barbers, you can do so here at GoFundMe. We will have special gifts for those who donate at different levels depending on their donation to sincerely thank you for your kindness. All the funds will go directly to the 15 barbers/staff and their families in order to help them with much-needed necessities and keep food on the table.
As community and country, we faced 9/11 and fought to keep our country safe and free. We faced the Great Recession and rose from the ashes to rebuild and bounce back from the collapse. This new challenge has us fighting once again, but history has taught us that we are strongest and unbeatable when we all run onto the battlefield together. San Francisco and the Bay Area will rise again, together. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
