San Francisco Glens U19 Soccer Team

We are part of the San Francisco Glens youth soccer academy (http://www.sfglensacademy.com/). Our U19 team earned a coveted spot for the MLS Next Cup national playoffs in Frisco, Texas beginning June 17.

SF Glens U19 MLS Next After 2nd Victory in Maryland

Our team needs to raise money to assist a handful of our families who can’t afford the high cost of the journey to Texas. Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated.

Why is this important for the San Francsico Glens?

• It is a HUGE achievement to qualify for the MLS Next Cup - national championship playoffs – the San Francisco Glens U19 team is one of the top 32 teams in the entire United States to qualify!

• The tournament is the #1 recruiting event for college soccer in the United States, and it puts the Glens on the radar screen of national collegiate recruiters.

• A number of Glens players are vying to earn scholarships so they can be the first in their families to attend college, while playing the sport they love; this tournament will give all Glens players incredible recruiting opportunities on the national soccer stage.

• Last year, the SF Glens used GoFundMe to support the team to make it possible to attend this same event. That team made history by reaching the national championship game. As a result, a handful of graduating players earned spots on NCAA DI, DII and DIII college soccer teams, while younger players on that team started conversations with college coaches about playing at their schools. It was and will be a life-changing event.

Why do we need your help?

• In order to qualify for this event, the team recently had to travel to Boyds, Maryland to compete in a nationwide MLS Next event (https://www.mlssoccer.com/mlsnext/tournaments/flex/).

• This was an expensive trip for many families. Many of our team's families cannot afford a second, five-day trip (or possibly longer).

• We expect the cost to attend this event will be almost $1,000 per player.

• The team comes from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds from San Francisco and the Bay Area - some of our families need assistance with the high cost to play in MLS Next league soccer.

• Participating in this event can open the doors for many of our players to attend and play soccer at NCAA DI, II, and III schools.

The funds raised here will help some of our families pay for airfare, hotel and ground transportation, as well as meals during the trip. After assisting the families with the greatest need, any remaining funds will be used to help the entire team defray the costs of being at the MLS Next Cup for five days, such as purchasing fruit and healthy snacks, and beverages with electrolytes to help our athletes recover between games.
