Starting September 2022 during the cold winter month, in Kalispell Montana, Sandra’s Husband was diagnosed with double aneurysms, behind both knees. He has a rare genetic condition where complications occur, due to very small veins. His right leg was suffering the most and he was told by the doctor he may lose his foot. They all agreed he would have surgery that required going through his left leg up through the groin over to the right knee and repairing the clogged arteries. 2 stents were put in to get the blood flowing. The surgery went well and was roughly $60,000 and no insurance. Anthony continued to work with excruciating pain in his foot even after the surgery, standing on his feet, and detailing cars. The infection in his foot returned and the doctors then said he would be losing his pinky toe.
The weather became worse, and the cold in their residential 5th wheel, was almost unbearable. Anthony maintained his day job and would come home to work outside on their humble home, maintaining operations to their camper. To keep warm and have electricity, propane is used to keep their living quarters, functional. The cost of propane has increased and the overwhelming price of his surgery weighed heavily on their minds. Days after the surgery, the fifth wheeler started acting up with a failing breaker. So, there was no power or warm water, and during a dark cold winter, this can be daunting. Some nights the winter brought very low temperatures of 30 degrees below.
Later they would learn there was yet another life-altering reality. Sandra went in for a routine mammogram and they found two lumps. One lump ended up being carcinoma ductal cancer, leading to a partial mastectomy. I cannot imagine the fear and worry that has now come to both of these wonderful individuals who are doing their best to simply survive. A longer winter than normal, September, October, November, December, January, February, March …you get the picture. Over 200 days of worry, pain, at times no warm water or heat, unknown answers as to why so much all at once.
Anthony after 30 years, went “cold turkey”, and quit smoking to help him not lose his toe. This was quite an accomplishment! There have been many prayers said for this family and I believe that in addition to quitting his addiction, God is there answering prayers. As an answer to one of their many prayers, the doctors gave the all-clear that he would not be losing his toe. They now have another battle to fight and we are all praying Sandra will fight the good fight and not lose her battle with Breast Cancer.
Sandra has begun radiation treatments. But, one step forward and eight steps back, have been the challenge including her inability to work at this time. Weeks previously, she had a terrible infection that wasn’t allowing the doctors to proceed with the radiation, stealing precious time on her path to recovery, which caused even more worry, fear, and doubt.
For those of you who know my sister, she is not one to ask for help out of feeling embarrassed or feeling it’s her fault for some reason. She always feels there is someone worse off that can use the help. I am doing this for her and her sweet husband because they are in great need at this time. They are two people who simply love each other very much and never ask for more than what is needed.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. This has been very heartbreaking news.
