Sandra's Medical and Recovery Fund

On September 23, 2016 one of the most recognized and memorable personalities of CU School Of Dental Medicine, Ms. Sandra Walker, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Whether you know her as the mother figure of the 4th floor, passionate about infection control and efficiency or the dedicated, loyal and loving friend that I know, you know her! And some of us are lucky enough to know both. Her dedication to the dental school and commitment to her students shines through her laugh and trademark smile. Her unconditional love for her friends and family which consists of her 2 sisters, 2 brothers and her mother, Ms. Eddie Mae, reflects her devoted and loving side. Either way Sandra is someone you WANT to know, someone you are lucky to know, and someone you are fortunate to have in your life and on your side.
Sandra is scheduled for a double mastectomy with full reconstructive surgery on November 30th, 2016. Her doctors have indicated that recovery should last approximately 6 weeks, if all goes well. If you know Sandra, you know she can't be kept away from the job she is committed to or the people she loves longer than that.
If you dont know Sandra as well as I do let me tell you a little about her. This is one of the strongest women you will ever meet. She is as real as they come, honest and truthful, loyal and fiercely loving. If she loves you, you know it by her actions, her words and sometimes her tough love. She battled ovarian cancer at the age of 22 and won that battle through chemotherapy. The following year they removed fluid from her left breast to test a suspicious lump. Thankfully that test came back free and clear of any cancer. Two years later a lumpectomy was performed, tissue was removed and tested but came back negative for cancer once again. Moving forward though the doctors felt it necessary to continue to moniter the lump every 6 months. In 2014 they did a routine exam which required an ultrsaound that revealed that the lump had changed and so another biopsy was recommended. This biopsy again came back benign. Regular exams were performed on a six month basis until the suspicous lump was tested once more only to find this time the lump was in fact, cancer. As you can see this has been a battle fought for many years. But Sandra, she's got this!
Sandra's faith and love for the Lord Almighty has carried her through so many trials and tribulations and it will carry her once again. Her love for her son shines so bright it will blind you. Her son's love for his mother holds her so high she soars. This is how she will get through this test emotionally and mentally.
But financially and monetarily help will be needed.
The funds from this campaign will be used to help ensure Sandra has nothing more to worry about then recovery. Medical bills, co-payments, medication, loss of wages from time off from work and any other expenses that she will need going forward will be taken care of by this fund.
We are asking that you; her family, friends, students, loved ones and anyone who knows Sandra consider helping to show your support and love. Sandra is now the one who needs a gold star, a symbol of support, a token of appreciation for her dedication, commitment and loyalty. If a donation is not possible, prayers, well wishes and positive thoughts and energy are never turned away and always appreciated.
With sincerest love and friendship,
~Alicia Hinshaw
