Sara Mitchell fight Breast Cancer!

Hi, my name is Renee Mitchell and I am a parent of Sara Mitchell, our dear 39 year old daughter. Sara was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in late February of this year, 2023.

This type of breast cancer differs from others in that it grows and spreads rapidly and currently has fewer treatment options. To say it was a shock is definitely an understatement!

In the past 8 weeks she has had biopsies, MRI, PET scan, ECHO, and consultations with oncology, radiology, cardiology and general surgery. She has received 3 doses of weekly chemotherapy expected to last another several months. The success of that phase will determine future options. We anticipate at least 18 months of treatment and recovery.

Her family is creating this fundraising campaign to financially assist her with out-of-pocket medical and living expenses during her aggressive treatment regimen.

Sara is fun, funny, caring and compassionate, loving, bright-eyed and smart. She is mom to two humans, one grown one almost grown, and two dogs. She is a newlywed with a great partner. She has great wonderful support from family and friends to help with some of the emotional struggles but we know it will take more.

She is a lively, experienced and effective office manager for a local family practice and has been with her current employer for over 15 years. During that time she and her office team have been instrumental in assisting their patients through health challenges and journeys. She never would have imagined that she would need the same type of care and assistance!

Her dedicated involvement in patient care with the local medical community has allowed her to access an incredible team of specialists to help her battle this rapidly growing nasty cancer.

She is planning on working part-time from home, but we all know that is going to be tough. Three weeks into the treatment we are finding out just how difficult that is! Her colleagues are assisting by allowing her to work remotely so she can maintain some income and hopefully her insurance coverage.

After extensive testing and medical appointments in the last 8 weeks, she has scant paid time off left, and only a 3-month short-term disability policy that could run concurrently with FMLA leave when needed.

This fundraising page has been started for Sara to provide financial support for the long journey ahead. Due to the significant side effects of her chemotherapy, she has requested that we manage the fundraising page for her. All donations will be transferred to her account in a timely fashion for her use. Any unused donations at the end of recovery will be donated to a like cause.
