Sarah Pickett is a warrior and simply one of those people everyone needs in their life. No matter how hard life gets, Sarah is the friend that will show up and make your day seem better. She is a caring person, she is selfless and intentional. If you have been blessed with her in your life either as a friend, coworker, classmate, church friend, UNCG student in need of advice, or family, you know what I am talking about! Not only does she have a heart of gold but also a great sense of humor. Just 2 days ago, she was still shooting videos on a lake telling us how to put masks on! 

A bit of medical background:
As some of you may know Sarah Ann was diagnosed with a brain tumor (glioblastoma) in 2017. She had it removed back in March of 2017 and continued chemotherapy afterwards. Part of the process of recovery involves constant supervision and on April 22nd of 2020 a test showed recurring cells in her brain. 

Yesterday, May 8th of 2020, most of the tumor was safely removed. A small piece was left behind as its removal would threaten Sarah's ability to walk or move. But doctors are confident other treatments like immunotherapy will help kill these remaining cells. 

So why did you create this fund? 
It has been 3 years since the first surgery, Sarah was close to finishing paying off the debt from the first round, had gotten back to work in the Bryan School at UNCG and started getting into a normal routine, even began her masters. 

However, this situation will require her to pay medical expenses and take time off from work while continuing her road to a full recovery. 

I know Sarah is part of a great community and many would like to help her in this process. So this fund will allow to bridge between her and those who want to support her financially during recovery. 

Personally, I am thankful because God was in control the first time and He continues to be! In the midst of of it all, He continues to give her the strength and community to get her through all the hardships of life. 

Philippians 4: 12-13 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation . . . . I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

But with the current crisis I cannot donate: 
In the uncertain times we live today, PLEASE DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED to donate to this fund. We all have our own personal problems, many have been laid off and are struggling financially. Please only donate if it won't hurt you. 

Most importantly, money is not everything in life. Here are other potential ideas to support her during this time:

-Texts and uplifting messages/pictures
-Cooking a meal for her
-Driving her to appointments
-Praying for her and for her family
-Sending good vibes

A message from Tim:

If you know Sarah, she is VERY good at budgeting and has done extraordinarily well by paying off almost all of the medical costs from her 2017 cancer treatment. However, the recurrence treatment will inevitably mount more bills on Sarah and will impact her financially. This GoFundMe is definitely not intended to beg for money. Rather, it was created as one of the many ways you can help and show your love for Sarah. We know that COVID-19 has taken financial toll on many of us, so please do not feel obligated to donate if you aren't able to.

Other ways you can support Sarah is sending encouraging emails/texts/FB messages/cards/mail (many of you have already did - thank you!!!), or even making generous offers such as getting her food, groceries, etc. If you are able to donate to GoFundMe, remember that no donation is too small! Any form of support, whether it's through encouraging and supporting messages, GoFundMe, or giving her gifts/food, etc is truly amazing and appreciated.
