On 8/31 @ 7:56pm, a vehicle drove through the back of Paradise Liquors on 119th street going at least 40MPH. Multiple metal shelving units and glass bottles exploded on impact, injuring Sarah. Hammond and Whiting police and medical emergency response crews arrived on the scene and she was originally taken to St. Catherine’s in East Chicago. Upon arrival, due to the extent of her injuries she was then immediately taken to UIC Trauma Center. She suffered deep lacerations to her torso, thighs and buttocks. Her first surgery was 5-6 hrs long, to close her wound and clear away glass and debris. Her second surgery was 4 hrs. She will need physical therapy and a possible 3rd surgery.
Sarah is a Whiting Native and alumni of WHS. She is a single mother of 4 children, 1 who is disabled. As anyone who knows her, her priorities are her kids, family and friends and would give the shirt off of her back to help everyone, even strangers. Due to this accident things may become difficult. Any help is very much appreciated.
