In Honour of Sarah 'Pops' Popil

On Friday March 8th, 2024, we lost our beloved friend and family member, Sarah ‘Pops’ Popil.

Sarah was larger than life. She was beautiful, vibrant, energetic and profoundly charismatic. She was an incredible athlete who loved snowboarding, playing softball, volleyball, soccer and golfing… You name it, she played it. And damn if she didn’t excel at everything she did. She lived her life in technicolour and everything she touched turned to gold.

Those close to Sarah know she also had a quiet side; a love of the simple pleasures in life, hiking with her pups, swimming blue lakes, fishing, boating and playing outdoors, and spending quality time with the many friends she gathered and maintained over the years.

On her days off, Sarah could be found listening to the same 20 country songs in her beloved truck, shooting pool with pals while sipping Caesars or watching the San Jose Sharks lose to every other team in the NHL.

Sarah loved fiercely, was a committed and generous friend and family member, and wore her old country soul like a badge of honour. She touched many lives along her path and left us far too soon.

Sarah was a dedicated and respected member of the Vancouver Police Department with an outstanding list of accomplishments in her career.

She proudly hailed from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the descendent of Ukrainian and Montreal Lake Cree ancestors.

Sarah’s primary concern in the event of her passing was always that her dad be taken care of. We have set up this GFM to fulfill her wishes; to help cover the cost and administration of Sarah’s estate, and to allow Cecil to have access to the funds he needs to be supported as he navigates this heart breaking time.

Funds raised in excess of what is needed to cover costs and support Sarah's father will be donated in her name to Kidsport, a Canadian charity that provides financial support for children who face financial barriers to accessing and participating in sports activities.
