Hello family, friends, and community,
First, thank you for taking the time to explore this page and consider contributing to my future. I appreciate you.
This upcoming year, I have the opportunity to pursue a Master's Degree at Harvard's Graduate School of Education. For as long as I can remember, my parents have instilled in me that education is invaluable. As a Latina from Highland Park, California - a small city within Los Angeles where this level of educational attainment of adults over 25 is far below the LA-wide average (less than 30%) even less for Latinos nationwide (less than 5%) - and attended Sacred Heart High School in Lincoln Heights, I know the value of scholarship and community support. This is how my education has been possible my whole life; through generous people who have invested in my future.
This humbling life experience combined with my education has manifested itself into my passion for educational equity and a personal and professional dedication to ensuring that young people have the same opportunities I have been given with less obstacles and greater success. I have spent the past two years as a College Adviser Fellow at Oakland High School through UC Berkeley's Destination College Advising Corps, where I have participated in the labor of love that is college access work. In order to continue this work, it is necessary to continue my education.
It is this same experience that brings me here, asking for your financial support through this process. The total cost for this program exceeds $79,000. I have been fortunate to receive institutional scholarships and grants in recognition of my work as an advocate beyond the scope of college advising and dedication to continuing to marry policy, theory, and everyday practice of this work. Still, I have a gap of over $20,000 in funding the upcoming year after accounting for employment, most of which I will be using loans to cover.
If you can, would you consider donating to my educational journey? Any contributions and words of encouragement are valued beyond just their dollar amount and greatly appreciated.
With fierce love and gratitude,
Sarah
