Sarah Turpin’s Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Sarah has always been a happy, healthy, kind young woman. living in Esterhazy with her partner, Cody, her cat Gemma, focused on her career, renovating their house and living life! That was until May 18, 2019 when Sarah was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia; cancer of the blood. Needless to say Sarah, Cody and her parents were in total shock and disbelief.
And so Sarah’s Cancer Journey began. After numerous tests, observations, and medications Sarah began her First Chemo Protocol of 22 days. Everyone’s response to chemo is so individualized and for Sarah her problem came with her nerves and muscles in her legs to the point where she could not stand or walk. After several days and hours of physio Sarah did regain her mobility and July 15 she took her first step with her walker. To top it off her cancer was in remission!
Remission now meant that Sarah was approved to begin a protocol of immunotherapy to maintain her remission and help her body heal. The therapy involved a 28 day infusion; still in hospital.
Finally, August 13 Sarah enjoyed a 3 week break out from the Royal University Hospital.
Phase 2! Sarah has just completed a Second Chemo Protocol, followed by anti-rejection/immune suppression medication and 3 days of full body radiation.
Tomorrow, September 12 Sarah receives her stem cell infusion and her RE- BIRTHDAY!!!
Going forward, Sarah is expected to remain in hospital for a further 4-6 weeks in order for her body to adjust and for treatment of symptoms and side effects on her new blood production system. Sarah’s after care will be 3-6 months of 24 hour supervision within 30 kms of Royal University Hospital until her medical team deems her stable and visits to the cancer center can then begin to decrease.
Sarah, Cody, Joanne, and Robert are so grateful for all the thoughts, prayers and messages in support of her journey. Sarah is also so thankful to the Esterhazy community for your support and the upcoming event!
I am Sarah’s Aunt and living in Stettler, I am not able to offer much in terms of meals, care or even visits, but I can make Sarah’s day a little easier in knowing that she will have some financial support to assist her in setting up a temporary home in Saskatoon ( all while Sarah and Cody maintain their house in Esterhazy), help with fuel in getting to the cancer center, and most important the prescription costs that will not be covered by Health Care. If you would also like to make Sarah’s day a little brighter please consider donating to Sarah’s Cancer Journey. Every little bit helps and Sarah receives every penny donated.
Thank you
