Sarah WIlhelmsen Legal Fund

I am delighted to call Sara my niece. She is an honest and hard-working young woman, daughter of my cousin Svanros, a mother of two beautiful children, and an airplane mechanic.

On Sunday, January 30 of this year (2022), Sarah was driving from her home to get a phone. As she approached the intersection of Kephart and Main Street in Berrien Springs, she began to slow down when she hit a man. Terry was living in a nearby group home and was walking toward her when it seemed he crossed the road suddenly, colliding.

About two weeks later, Terry died in a hospital, and Sarah has now been charged with a "moving violation resulting in death." This charge is classified as a misdemeanor and may result in imprisonment for up to one year and monetary fines.

Unfortunately, the accident took another life, and we grieve for him, but we do not believe that Sarah is guilty of the crime with which they charged her.

We have met with an attorney and have hired his services. He will be with Sarah in court and guide her through the whole process if her case goes to trial. He is very competent and has given Sarah the confidence to move forward.

Two days after the accident, Sarah was in the hospital for major cancer surgery. She believed that no charges would be filed against her and was dealing reasonably well with her life considering the surgery and accident. With the charges being filed against her, an arrest warrant was issued. She discovered that two officers were looking to arrest her, except that her uncle David had posted bail, and she had a receipt with her that maintained her freedom.

Attorney fees are conciderable with a retainer fee of US$10,000 paid up front and additional charges will grow if her case goes to court. Thus I am setting the goal at US$15,500 to get us started and I ahve told Sarah that her family and friends will help keep her out of jail and to fight the charges.
