Sarah Chavez Shelton Memorial Fund

This December Sarah passed unexpectedly at 38 years young. This is a monumental loss to say the least.  Sarah was a San Jose, California native. Being the avid traveler she was... her travels led her to lay down roots in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband Steve. Family was extremely important to Sarah. When she met and married the love of her life Steve she also gained a daughter Juliet who she absolutely adored. They shared a truly beautiful bond and understanding with one another. Sarah and her family also had two dogs Daisy and Baudelaire whom were her constant companions. Sarah was also extremely close to her dad Alex, brother Saul, stepmom Kelly, sister Hannah, brother Alex and niece Rose. Any chance she had to speak to them on the phone or visit them she would. Never was there a moment that she failed to express to them of how much she loved them. Sarah was particularly proud of her Native American Heritage (Honey Lake Maidu) and being a great granddaughter X3 of Captain Jack. She was a tribal member of the Susanville Indian Rancheria based in Susanville, CA.  Her father Alex Chavez is a Vietnam veteran. Sarah loved to brag about her dads service to this country. She was so proud of him. Sarah  was an accomplished artist and musician. Spending her free time painting or performing with her band "The Brand" whom her husband Steve is also in. In addition, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, reading, caring for the animals that flocked to her, decorating, and working on projects for their family's new home.

If there is one word to describe Sarah it would be remarkable. Remarkable daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. To know her was a priceless gift.  Sarah had a powerful presence and was a warrior true to her Native American lineage. Everyone whom she interacted with truly felt connected with her. When you spoke she listened wholeheartedly and genuinely cared for your wellbeing. If you needed her she would drop what she was doing to be that person by your side, supporting you any way that she could. Sarah had such compassion for others and that is why so many people were drawn to her. Sarah said what she meant and meant what she said with no apologies and that is what made her beautiful. You always knew you were getting 100% authenticity. Sarah's love was a safe place for so many and she was nothing short of amazing.

Many family and friends are reaching out wanting to know what they can do to help during this time. As you can understand, there are lots of expenses that arise during these difficult moments. Some foreseeable and some unforeseeable. The donated funds will be used at the discretion of Steve and Juliet to help with memorial costs and so forth.  If you would like to donate to alleviate some of these expenses you can do so here via gofund me.
