Update:
Today marks a little over three weeks since Sara’s accident and surgery. It has already been one week since she returned home, and she is diligently working to find the right balance between activity and rest.
Her first outpatient appointment with the orthopedic team went well. The staples were removed, and the orthopedic physician assistant, Anthony, expressed his admiration for Sara’s strong mindset and independent spirit. He did mention that a recovery of this nature could take up to six months.
While Sara is fully aware of the challenges ahead, she remains determined to follow all prescribed protocols and is confident that she will recover more quickly than anticipated.
Sara continues to be deeply grateful for the support, well-wishes, and donations she has received through this page. Your kindness means the world to her during this challenging time.
Thank you for all your continued support!

On Saturday, February 15th, 2025, Sara Mackie, a beloved caregiver and wellness advocate on Martha’s Vineyard, suffered a serious injury when she slipped on the ice during a snowstorm. The fall resulted in torn tendons in both of her knees, leading to an urgent surgery that required the expertise of Dr. Gregory Waryasz from Mass General in Boston. Thanks to the quick action of Dr. Waryasz and his team, Sara was able to undergo surgery less than 12 hours after the accident. She is now receiving excellent care on the acute injury floor at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and is expected to be released on Thursday, February 27th.
Sara is well-known on the island for her work as a caregiver, helping local families with compassion and dedication. Additionally, she is a valued contributor to the wellness and yoga community on Martha’s Vineyard, where she has spent years sharing her expertise to help others find balance, healing, and peace in their lives.
This unexpected injury has left Sara unable to work for at least four months and with this, she is facing significant medical and living expenses during her recovery. As she focuses on healing, her goal is to take away any unnecessary stress related to finances so she can fully dedicate herself to getting back to the life she loves—helping others, teaching wellness, and contributing to her community.
Any support, no matter the size, will help Sara during this challenging time. Your donations will help her recover without the added stress of financial burdens, allowing her to focus on regaining her health and returning to the work she is so passionate about.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support. Sara is incredibly grateful for this community, and your contributions mean the world to her.
