Sarasota 8 year old struck by car

Hello,
On April 25th, 2022, an elementary school boy rode his bike home from school in Sarasota, Fl, on the Legacy Trail. (Sarasota has a unique bike trail that spans 18.5 miles and connects many of our main roads for those not familiar with the area.) While almost across the crosswalk on the trail at the Bee Ridge intersection, a Dodge pickup truck struck the child. A motorcycle police officer and several EMTs arrived at the scene, and it was determined the child needed to be med-flighted to All Children's Hospital.
Thankfully he lived. However, he did sustain extensive injuries, specifically a severe compound fracture to his right leg that will require constant care and supervision during his recovery and for years to come.
Not only has the child been wrecked by this tragedy, but his older brother was also with him, and his mother witnessed the accident. The incident has caused extreme emotional turmoil for the entire family, a family that is an absolute pillar in our community. His mother is the sole provider for her children and a director at a popular local preschool and has an incredible bond with her students and their families. However, she is currently unable to work due to the care needs of her little boy. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the accident, she is also left battling with the pickup truck's insurance for the medical care for her son.
Her extended school family is deserpate to help alleviate her burden in any way possible, and we are asking for any and all help. This is going to be a very challenging period of time for everyone involved and any contribution could help this family keep food on the table, provide medical care, and ensure there is a roof over their heads while this little boy recovers from this horrific accident. Any amount can help, and we truly appreciate all contributions!
