Sarn's Jump Start to a Fresh Start

Sarn Choy Saechao, my best friend and cousin is one of the most caring, humble, and smartest people I know. He has always had the biggest dream of building a community where all of his family, relatives, and friends can live together in peace and harmony. In order to achieve his goal of creating this community, he knew that he would need to acquire a large amount of capital. This led him to pursue higher education to become a doctor since we were all taught in our early childhood that doctors make the most money out of all professions. Sarn went on to finish grade school, high school, and college with nothing short of impressive grades and exam scores. He went on to pursue his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at St. Georges University of Medicine in 2015.
Two years later in early 2017, he returned home from medical school. Something was not quite right with Sarn and things were starting to surface.
In September of 2018, he was scheduled to move to Southern California to begin his rotations at a hospital to continue his career path into becoming a doctor. However, he started experiencing symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders, movement disorders, and reduced speaking*. Ultimately, he was not able to move to Southern California to begin his rotations. In our Mien culture, we tend to associate these symptoms with demonic and ancestral spirits taking over our bodies. Little did he or we all knew, he has since been fighting a mental illness called schizophrenia. For the past 6 months, Sarn has been in and out of a psych ward. He is now on the proper medication fighting the many battles to recovery.
As you can imagine, this has made it extremely difficult for Sarn to maintain personal relationships. Additionally, this has also caused him major financial hardships. At this time, his pursuit towards a career as a doctor is put on hold while he focuses on his mental well being. With this fundraiser, I hope to not only help raise funds to give Sarn a jump start to a fresh start, but also to show him the amount of support that he has from all of his friends and family.
