Medical Expenses

Hey Everyone!!  

If you want to hear God laugh,  tell him your plans.

As you all know I was chosen to go to China in February and was humbled by the outpouring of support from friends and family to attain my goal of traveling abroad to teach in Shanghai.  I purchased the ticket and was preparing to go and have the experience of a lifetime.  

February 17th,  I was on a playdate with my 6 year old son, Xavi at the Sky Zone Trampoline Center.  Foolhardy at it was I decided to jump on the trampolines and had a terrible accident.  I dislocated my left knee,  suffer nerve damage,  fractured my the top of my tibia, and tore my ACL and MCL.    ugh.   They had to pop my knee back into place at the ER (which they knocked me out, Thank God) to put it back into place. 

 I also developed a blood clot in my left calf which required a procedure to have a filter placed in my vein to prevent the clot from travelling.  I am on injectable blood thinner medications which I adminster to my abdomen twice a day.

On March 6th,  under the care of orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Bert Mandelbaum, and neurosurgeon, Dr. Aaron Filler, they operated on my left leg to repair my MCL and other structural damage and repair the damaged nerves.  I have been recovering well and should be on track to return to work in early April.  Once the nerves have regenerated sufficiently,  I will have to undergo another surgery to repair my ACL.

The blessings come from the outpouring of support from family and friends.  The timing of this injury is terrible as I was looking forward to going to China to teach.  I am in the process of refunding the ticket which I would get 80 percent of the value back.  For all those that donated to my original campaign,  I ask that those donated funds be applied to to my ever climbing medical bills.  I have awesome insurance through the school district.  The out of pocket expenses after deductibles and co-pays are approximately 10,000 dollars.  The refunded airline ticket and donations can go towards that amount.    I am changing this campaign for the sake of transparency and clarity.  It will probably be at least a year with physical therapy and rehabiliation until I am I will be 100 percent.  I thank you all in advance for your continued support of my journey.
