Update: I’m so happy and relieved to let you know that thanks to your outpouring of generosity, I’ve exceeded my goal! You all are the best and I am so grateful for your help in keeping us on our feet. Thank you!!!
My dear friends and family,
It humbles me to present this request to you. I am doing everything in my capacity to keep my household afloat financially, and while I am not usually one to ask for help, I need to do so now.
As you may know, I am losing my job, at least temporarily, on April 6, due to having missed an unredeemable continuing education credit to renew my medical interpreter certification. I retook the certification test and am awaiting results; however, the wait time will cause me to miss at least a couple of weeks at my regular job as an interpreter at Skagit Regional Health. Even when I'm working full-time, my salary barely covers my basic living expenses. So to lose even two weeks of work would prevent me from paying a month's worth of rent and bills.
On top of this, I am shocked at how much I owe in income taxes this year. I worked half of 2022 as an independent contractor and the other half at my current employer, so my taxes are complicated but I don't have the means to hire an accountant. I always have difficulty saving for taxes because my income to expense ratio is so tight. And this year, largely due to reduced tax credits for working families, I owe $2342—money that I simply don't have. With the knowledge that some might admonish me for not having prepared for this situation, I appeal to your understanding that I had limited means to prepare. Becoming a single parent in 2021 of a child with increasing financial needs (her own bedroom and an insatiable tween appetite being the biggest), skyrocketing inflation (in two years my housing costs have increased 127%), and now getting put on standby at work, all combine to land me in this bind.
The amount that I am looking to raise includes this tax bill as well as half a month of rent and bills ($851.81). Your contribution will enable me to maintain my home and prevent me from paying months or years of interest to the IRS. Please help with what you can; $10 is just as appreciated as $1000. I respectfully am not asking for advice at this moment—financial or otherwise. More than anything, I am just needing compassion and a little help from my loved ones. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your consideration.
With love,
Sauvryn
