Obituary for Andrew T. "Andy" Savage

******************************************
March 8, 2019 UPDATE:  After 15 months of treatment, Andy's cancer has spread and his health has been declining rapidly over the past couple of months. Last week Andy transitioned to hospice and is spending his final days at home surrounded by his family. Thank you for your continued support for the Savage family during this very difficult time.

Andy Savage ("Savage") is an '04 UNH alumni where he graduated with a degree in Psychology.  He was also a brother at SAE, where he pledged in the spring of 2001.

Since graduating from UNH, Andy spent more than 10 years as a Senior Account Manager at a Boston-based IT consulting shop. More importantly, Andy is a devoted husband and father. He and his wife, Beth, live in Melrose, MA with their two young children, ages 4 and 1 ½.

Andy is also a great friend, has a passion for music, fitness, and anything with a motor, and loves to travel, especially to Martha's Vineyard and St. John, USVI.  In fact, Andy and Beth got engaged in St. John and later eloped on Martha's Vineyard and have taken several trips back to both places since.

Andy was diagnosed with a genetic form of stomach cancer in April 2016, 5 weeks after the birth of his son. He began treatment at Dana-Farber at the beginning of May 2016, which included 9 weeks of chemotherapy followed by surgery to remove his stomach in July 2016, followed by another 9 weeks of chemotherapy.

In February 2017, after undergoing all of the above plus some complications resulting in multiple hospitalizations, Andy had a clean cancer scan and he began the tough road to recovery. He moved forward with a career change over the summer of 2017, and in early September accepted a new job as a Healthy Aging Program Coordinator at a Boston-based non-profit. Andy had also been volunteering for the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors at the YMCA twice a week, and had started working as a part-time fitness floor instructor as well.

However, after a recurrence of symptoms, Andy underwent surgery on September 21, 2017, which showed that his cancer had returned and also spread. He was forced to decline the new job he had accepted, and began treatment at Dana-Farber on October 13, 2017. Unfortunately, the treatment will only slow down the spread as the cancer is incurable.

Please consider joining us in helping the Savage family during this especially difficult and personal time.  Thank you for your consideration.
