Help Savannah fight Acute Myeloid Leukemia (again)
Donation protected
Update November 2023:
On October 24, 2023, just a few days before her one year anniversary in remission (November 2, 2022), Savannah found out that her leukemia was coming back fast and hard. Luckily, her care team caught it early and started treatment right away. Her oncologists at Duke and Bristol coordinated a care plan that allowed her to stay home this time and receive treatment at the Bristol cancer center. She’s been doing chemo for the last 2 and a half weeks, and goes to Duke on Wednesday for a bone marrow biopsy to see how she’s responding to treatment.
She will ultimately need another stem cell transplant, which means temporarily moving back to Durham while she undergoes care at Duke. Timing is still TBD, as they are working to find a new donor.
I am asking for prayers once again for a complete healing and recovery for my sister, Savannah. She’s been through so much at such a young age. Her 27th birthday is approaching in December, which will be a few days short of the 2 year mark when she first found out she had leukemia.
I’m circulating this GoFundMe again in case you’d like to help Savannah as she fights this fight again. Funds will be used to supplement food, travel and lodging costs as she travels to Durham.
I understand times are hard for nearly everyone right now, so we appreciate anything you can offer, a prayer or otherwise.
Thanks in advance for your support and the love you’ve shown Savannah over the last couple of years. It worked the first time, and we know it can work again.
2022:
My sister Savannah was unexpectedly diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) on January 4, 2022, just two weeks after her 25th birthday. Savannah was sent to VCU in Richmond, Virginia, where she received aggressive chemotherapy treatments and was later transferred to Duke for a bone marrow transplant. Savannah received her bone marrow transplant on August 2, 2022, and we are so thankful for the donor who provided the bone marrow to help Savannah overcome this disease.
Savannah and her husband Logan have been away from home since her diagnosis and will remain in Durham until at least the end of October to continue her post-transplant treatment. Both had to quit their full-time jobs, and with lodging, food costs, and medical bills adding up, her family is starting this GoFundMe to help ease some of the financial stress for this young couple.
To add to the stress, Savannah and Logan's home in Pound, Virginia was flooded by heavy rainwater just days before her transplant. The floor must be replaced, and a professional must clean the house before Savannah can return home (to prevent exposure to mold/mildew). Any funds raised will also be used to restore their house from the flood.
Anything you can give is appreciated, even if it's just a prayer. We appreciate the support you've already shown Savannah this year! We are looking forward to the day she can return home cancer-free.
