SAVE 395 BRISTOL GRASSROOTS ARTS & MUSIC VENUE

395 is a community driven DIY hybrid space that is open to the public, with multiple studios inside. We welcome all types of creatives, potential or established who need a creative space for raw expression and collaboration, we weave the ties between creatives and encourage community and family vibes. We take on private bookings that can come in the form of photo or video shoots, DJ recording/radio sessions, workshops, events, rehearsals or exhibitions, as well as being an open space for all when there is no bookings. Our goal is to be a zero barrier safe creative platform and hold space for everyone, for creatives to advance in their respective creative industries and find a source of income.

We are not even one year into our journey of providing life altering opportunities for anyone who needs the space to create and exist without expectation. And have faced a licensing review from the council due to complaints from one neighbouring venue that have clearly stated they do not want us in the building. Both of our venues rent the units from one landlord and share one building.

Our donations are going to be spent on our lawyer fees, soundproofing materials, wages for builders and affording rent while the work is done. We are in the process of defending our right to remain a legal business that can put on events and run for the foreseeable future, as that is the main income source to keep this space open.

This is a sound issue. We will need to soundproof our roof in order to continue coexisting with our neighbouring venue and to avoid anymore noise pollution clashes between events.

Final Thoughts

There is no denying how life altering having open access to Grassroot spaces and Collectives like ours can be on the community. Choosing the path of creativity and independence is under constant threat for many reasons, and this is why we rely on likeminded people to advocate for us.
