Saving the forgotten street dogs of Mexico
Tax deductible
My name is Heather and I rescue dogs in Mexico. When I started 7 years ago, I hoped that someday it would end - that more people would begin to value dogs and there would be no more suffering. That hasn't happened yet. Until it does, I’ll be here doing everything I can to make life better for street dogs.
We recently moved to a rural farm in Yucatan State to create a sanctuary for street dogs. There is space here to roam and chase balls and enjoy the sunshine. Dogs live with me until they find their forever people. Some stay for a month. Some aren’t adoptable due to trauma and stay forever.
Sanctuary dogs go to sleep with full bellies and will never again know the pain of hunger. They will never struggle to find shelter from torrential rains. They are safe, loved and protected.
Every dog that comes our way is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for tick-borne diseases / transmissible illnesses. Most pups, like those pictured, have broken bones & bodies which require surgery, hospitalization and often months of rest/recovery.
Street dogs here lead horrific lives. We have dogs in our care who have lived through things that hurt me to even type. I understand reading about animal abuse is awful, so no need to go into detail.
Spending my days with these amazingly brave and forgiving animals is the greatest pleasure of my life. They deserve every bit of our love and kindness.
Please consider donating to help with food and vet care. The dogs and I are forever grateful.
Thank you for reading my story.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the US.
