Stand for Equity: Keep Our Teacher at Rolando Park

Donación protegida

Our little school, Rolando Park Elementary, is fighting hard to keep a beloved teacher from being cut mid-year due to low enrollment. This cut will disproportionately impact one of the most diverse schools in San Diego—90% of our students are minority, 83% come from economically disadvantaged families, and we are the first home for many refugee children entering the country. These students, already facing significant challenges, deserve more stability and resources, not fewer teachers and the disruption of classroom changes.

We are incredibly proud of the diversity that enriches our students' and families' lives. Our teachers work tirelessly to uplift every student, whether they’re new to our school or new to the country. We are a 9/10, top 20% school despite the odds!

Our parents made their voices heard—calling and writing the district. Now, the district has agreed to meet to discuss the PTA fundraising a portion of the resources needed to keep our teacher. We urgently need to raise at least $5,000 this weekend so we can enter our meeting with the district prepared with a good faith donation. Donations of just $10 or $20 can help make a big impact—it’s the number of people supporting this cause that will show how strong our community is. Every contribution brings us closer to ensuring our students keep the stability they need.

Cutting this teacher would destabilize our community, displacing 19 second graders and overcrowding other classrooms, making it even harder for teachers to meet the needs of all students. If we succeed, our parents and school leaders will continue to fight for our school’s growth and ensure our students receive the stable, enriching elementary experience they deserve.

If we are unable to prevent the cut, your donations will go toward providing essential resources for the impacted students—helping them build new classroom communities mid-year and ensuring their teachers have the learning materials necessary for their new, larger combined grade classrooms.

Please donate if you can and share widely. We’ve earned a seat at the table to fight for our teacher—let’s show the district that our community stands behind our diverse school and demands the resources it deserves. Together, we can prove that our small, vibrant neighborhood school is stronger than any obstacle.
