Stand for Equity: Support Our Students After Teacher Cut
Donation protected
Our small but mighty school, Rolando Park Elementary, fought hard to prevent the mid-year cut of a beloved teacher due to low enrollment. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to stop it. We are one of the most diverse schools in San Diego—90% of our students are from minority backgrounds, 83% come from economically disadvantaged families, and many are refugees entering the U.S. for the first time. Together we fought to give these students the stability they deserved.
We are incredibly proud of the diversity that enriches our students' and families' lives. Our teachers work tirelessly to uplift every student, whether they’re new to our school or new to the country. We are a 9/10, top 20% school despite the odds!
Now, with the funds we’ve raised, we’re focused on supporting the students impacted by this cut. Our goal is to ensure that their new, larger classrooms have the resources they need to thrive despite the upheaval. Your donations will provide essential materials and help students adjust as they transition to new environments.
Though we couldn’t save our classroom, our voices were heard and the district is working with us to prevent this happening again and is pushing for more equity throughout our district. The district acknowledged our school as a hidden gem with it's outstanding academic performance, consistently outperforming our district and the state for several years. While our beloved teacher is being reallocated to another school, we remain committed to giving our students the best chance at success.
The support you've given will help these students navigate the challenges of combined classrooms and ensure that they don’t fall behind. The efforts of our parents made the news this week and we continue to receive support so will keep this campaign open a little longer for anyone who heard about our fight and would like to support our students moving forward. Together, we will make sure our vibrant neighborhood school continues to thrive, no matter what obstacles we face.
