Save a Unique, One-of-a-Kind Aircraft and Get it to a Museum
Donation protected
Hello, I'm a writer, contributor for Flying Magazine, and the person behind the Cessnateur Instagram account . In an effort to preserve some very unique aviation history, I'm raising money to save the one and only prototype Avtek 400 aircraft and get it to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.
The Avtek is a unique twin turboprop canard pusher business aircraft that once starred in an episode of Airwolf. It was one of the first all-composite civilian turboprop aircraft. After being abandoned at Camarillo Airport in California, the local EAA chapter there listed it for sale, asking $5,000.
A very generous follower has pledged to cover the $5,000 provided I can find a way to get the airplane to a Museum. I reached out to a shipper the EAA chapter has used in the past (who used to be an A&P) and he provided a quote of $6,000 to carefully disassemble the Avtek, load it onto his flatbed trailer, and transport it up to the Evergreen museum.
The museum is excited about the opportunity. If this fundraiser works out and we can get the Avtek there, they will place it on display next to two other unique canard aircraft, a Rutan Quickie and a Beechcraft Starship.
My fear - if we can't raise the necessary funds to get the Avtek up to the museum, it will wind up rotting away in someone's backyard or worse, scrapped altogether. It would be a tragedy to see such a unique and interesting piece of aviation history hidden away from future generations like that.
As Indiana Jones famously said, "It belongs in a museum!"
I will personally be pledging 10% of the necessary funds ($600) to make this happen. I would greatly appreciate it if you could also donate, and share this GoFundMe with other aviation enthusiasts.
Thank you so much.
